Unagi no Kawatoyo
An established unagi and local chicken specialty restaurant founded in 1981 (Showa 56). The freshness comes from buying live eel every morning and preparing them on the day. Kanoya City is known as the 'Osumi Unagi Kaido' (eel highway), and this is one of the locals' long-loved spots. There is about a 30-minute wait as the eel is grilled after ordering—proof that it's freshly grilled. Satsuma local chicken dishes are also available.
Regulars say 'the freshness of live eel bought every morning is exceptional' and 'the long-cultivated tare sauce has great depth.' Listed on local tourism sites as one of the Osumi Unagi Kaido restaurants. Also featured on Gurunavi.
