Otoraya Shokudo
Founded in 1928, a legendary diner loved for nearly 100 years in the Showa-no-Machi retro shopping street of Bungotakada. What's astonishing is the price: champon noodles and takana fried rice are both 350 yen—unchanged since 1980 for over 40 years. The champon features a light broth with dried fish and bonito dashi, loaded with vegetables. The takana fried rice uses organic pickled mustard greens with mild chili pepper. Full on weekends. This experience—real food at this price in a genuine Showa retro setting—exists nowhere else in Japan.
Reviews note 'real champon at this price is unbelievable,' 'the shock of the 1928 founding versus the price,' 'locals come almost every day,' and 'the spirit of not raising prices even when consumption tax went up.' TripAdvisor 4.0/7 reviews. Tabelog 3.33/22 reviews. Retty shows many posts from regular locals. A Showa-era gem with the trifecta of price, taste, and atmosphere.
