Gateau des Bois A La Maison
A legendary French patisserie just steps from Kintetsu Yamato-Saidaiji Station. Owner-chef Hayashi Masahiko became the first Japanese to win the 'Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie' — the world championship of French pastry — in 1991. Only 2 locations (main shop and laboratory), no franchise. Cakes can also be enjoyed in the on-site café. Selected for Tabelog Sweets West 100 in 2023.
Locals rave: 'You can taste a world champion's cakes in Nara at these prices,' 'Always a guaranteed hit as a gift,' 'The Ambroisie is in a class of its own.' A gift shop beloved and trusted by locals for over 40 years.
