Mukayama Shokudo
Founded in 1869 (Meiji 2), now in its sixth generation, this is the oldest surviving casual restaurant in Fukuoka. The birthplace of folk singer Akasaka Koume, etched into Kawasaki-machi history. Renovated in March 2025, the sixth-generation owner added authentic Chinese dishes—mapo tofu, ebi chili, sweet and sour pork. Regulars in work clothes fill the place. Praised as 'no miss' for karaage, chanpon, and katsudon alike.
Reviews: 'Best juicy karaage', 'I'll eat the chanpon again and again', 'The oyakodon is seriously Japan's best', 'Reassuring to see workers in overalls', 'Satisfying no matter what I order'. Yahoo Maps 4.04 (24 reviews). Deeply loved by local workers and regulars. Featured twice by KBC TV and WING magazine. No fake reviews.
