Mejiro Shimura
An old established Japanese sweets shop 2 minutes from Mejiro Station, founded in 1939. The shaved ice made with natural ice from Yatsugatake, 'towering like a cliff', went viral on social media, creating must-endure lines in summer. Selected for Tabelog Japanese Sweets Top 100 from 2020-2023 (Tabelog 3.76, 1,793 reviews). Regular wagashi like mame daifuku and dorayaki also draw loyal locals year-round.
Reviews say 'The natural ice kakigori is among the best in Tokyo', 'Has the gravitas of a 80+ year old wagashi shop', 'Now I have a reason to visit Mejiro'. In summer, waits can exceed 1 hour.
