Nanataki Chaya
A venerable tea house with over 55 years of history beside the Kawazu Nanataki waterfalls. The wasabi rice bowl (700-900 yen) using locally grown fresh wasabi is beloved by locals as 'something you can only eat here.' The tea house itself appeared in the TV Tokyo series Solitary Gourmet (the crushed strawberry scene), with Matsushige Yutaka's autograph displayed inside. Menus showcase Izu's bounty including tororo soba and strawberry parfait. Dining amid riverside nature is itself part of the experience, drawing endless repeat visitors.
Tabelog saves of 7,202, 239 reviews, score 3.51 — outstanding for an Izu Peninsula tea house. March 2026 review confirmed ('strawberry parfait is the seasonal hit'). Longtime repeat customers are prominent — 'The wasabi heat is completely different,' 'I come every year,' 'I've been coming since I was a child.' Visitors from outside the prefecture increased after the Solitary Gourmet feature, but local support is the foundation. Note the early last order at 16:30.
