WHY IT'S A MESHI MAP PICK
Locals keep coming back. That is the real proof.
Founded in 1909, Naniwaya Sohonten is one of the Three Great Taiyaki shops of Tokyo with over a century of unbroken history.
It is the real-life model behind the beloved children's song Oyoge Taiyakikun, and it still upholds the traditional method of simmering azuki beans from Hokkaido's Tokachi region for eight full hours the day before service.
Made one by one in the old-fashioned single-mold style, each taiyaki delivers a crispy shell around a refined, perfectly balanced sweet filling.
At just 200 yen per piece and rated 3.78 on Tabelog with over 2,648 reviews, lines stretch around the block every weekend.

One of Tokyo's three great taiyaki shops, founded in 1909 (current corporation 1984). The restaurant is said to be the model for the beloved 1975 hit song 'Oyoge! Taiyaki-kun.' Uses only Tokachi (Hokkaido) red beans slow-cooked for 8 hours the day before. The 'natural style' single-mold taiyaki has crispy skin and abundant filling. Selected for Tabelog Wagashi 100. 2nd floor has a Japanese sweets cafe.

Regulars say 'Once you try this taiyaki, you can't eat others' and 'I always stop by when I'm in Azabu Juban.' An institution loved by both tourists and locals.
