Asoji
The original restaurant credited with popularizing Aso's local specialty, takana meshi (mustard greens rice), as a restaurant menu item. The set meal (around 1,000 yen) includes homemade Aso takana old-style pickled greens and bamboo shoots stir-fried into rice, dango soup made with wheat and rice flour dumplings, and braised offal. Pickles are self-service and unlimited. A long-established diner along National Route 57. Takeout available (takana meshi 550 yen).
