Akatsukiya
A local community cafe and eatery in Ei-cho, Minamikyushu, centered around soba made with 'saba-bushi' (dried mackerel flakes), a traditional ingredient of the Nansat region. The recipe, once a staff meal, was revived in 2023. The carefully brewed dashi from locally made saba-bushi is rich and deep. The Akatsuki Gozen set (¥1,375) — soba, simmered rice, chawanmushi, pickles, dessert, and drink — offers outstanding value. A roadside spot for travelers through the Nansat Peninsula.
Reviews note: 'The saba-bushi dashi is deep and delicious,' 'Nostalgic taste that keeps you coming back,' 'Didn't know there was a place like this in Nansat,' and 'The Akatsuki Gozen at ¥1,375 is amazingly complete.'
