Masugen
A seafood and Japanese-style izakaya in Kuwano, Koriyama, founded in Showa 52 (1977). The owner handpicks fresh seafood every morning, and four veteran chefs serve 60 guests in a spacious dining room. Lunch sashimi and grilled fish sets are priced under 1,000 yen, packing the parking lot every day. From seasonal Pacific saury and autumn salmon to raw horse meat and seasonal hot pots (oyster, kiritanpo, monkfish, fugu), the menu follows the seasons closely. Families and local regulars of all ages fill the room at lunch and dinner alike. Takeout available.
'A long-established shop since 1977. So popular at lunch that the parking lot fills up.' 'Can't believe how much sashimi you get at this price.' 'Best raw horse meat in Koriyama.' 'All four of us ate our fill for 5,000 yen. Best value around.' 'I use takeout every week.'
