Unagi Takeya
A Karatsu eel institution founded in the Meiji era (around 1877), housed in a Taisho-era wooden three-story building designated as a national registered tangible cultural property. The Kansai-style 'jiyaki' technique (direct grilling without steaming) and the secret sauce handed down since opening create an incomparable fragrance. Uses only carefully selected eels from southern Kyushu. Selected as Tabelog Unagi WEST Top 100 for 2024. TripAdvisor #4 in Karatsu. A constant stream of reviews citing 'worth traveling far to visit.'
Tabelog 3.71 (293 reviews), TripAdvisor 4.3/5 (34 reviews), Yahoo! Maps 4.23. Numerous repeat-visitor reviews such as 'visited many times' and 'always come here for eel.' Visitors from Kanto and Kansai confirm the 'worth traveling far for' reputation. Negative reviews contain legitimate critiques (wait times, slight value concerns), not suspicious patterns. No sakura indicators.
