Gyoza Kogetsu
A gyoza specialist founded in 1947, with only two locations — Beppu and Kurume — preserving the same recipe for nearly 80 years. Known locally as 'every Beppu person knows this place.' Menu is simply pan-fried gyoza and beer. 15 pieces per serving for ¥600. Small dumplings with thin, crispy skin (corners trimmed diagonally) fried in sesame oil — selected for Tabelog Gyoza Top 100 in 2024. Open Friday-Sunday only; regulars queue before opening.
Tabelog 3.72, 447 reviews. Overwhelmingly praised: 'Might be my favorite gyoza in my whole life,' 'Worth waiting over an hour.' Featured in BRUTUS magazine and many other media. Open only Friday-Saturday-Sunday from 2pm until sold out — which adds to its exclusivity. No sakura indicators (extremely low price of ¥600, long-established institution).
