The craftsman behind Gankomen trained at the well-regarded Dainaka before striking out on his own in 2013, setting up shop in Fukakusa in the quieter southern reaches of Kyoto.

The chicken-pork bone bowl at 830 yen and the niboshi-chicken-pork bone at 1,050 yen are priced with genuine consideration for the guest, yet the restaurant earned a place on the Ramen Top 100 list in 2023 — and more than 800 people on Retty have it flagged as somewhere they need to visit.
