Unagi Ryori Shikaroku
A century-old unagi (eel) specialty restaurant in Shingu, established in 1923 (Taisho 12). Known as the favorite restaurant of the Shingu-born literary figure Sato Haruo, who wrote about it in his 1956 essay 'Unagi no Hanashi (The Story of Eel).' Premium domestic eel is hand-grilled over Kishu binchotan charcoal and finished with a secret sauce passed down since the founding. Located near the Kumano Hayatama Grand Shrine, it has been loved by locals for post-worship meals. A representative Shingu restaurant featured in Shingu City's furusato nozei (hometown tax).
