Nakatanidou
A veteran yomogi mochi specialist on Sanjo-dori, 3 minutes from Kintetsu Nara Station. Founded in 1992. The shop's lightning-fast mochi pounding by skilled craftsmen has become a Nara landmark featured on many TV programs. Made with Saga Prefecture mochi rice, Hokkaido Tokachi azuki beans, and Uwajima mugwort shoots. The freshly-pounded softness and mugwort fragrance are irresistible. Selected for Tabelog Japanese Sweets West 100 in 2023.
Visitors say: 'The experience of eating freshly-pounded mochi right in front of you is amazing,' '200 yen for this quality is honest pricing,' 'Both tourists and locals keep coming back for the authentic taste.' Lines look long but move quickly. A staple of Nara since 1992.
