1. Information We Collect

Location Information

When you grant permission, we obtain your device's location (latitude and longitude) and send it to our restaurant-search API on our server in order to find nearby restaurants and sort them by distance. Because the coordinates are sent as part of the request, they may be temporarily recorded in standard server access logs. We use the coordinates only to process your search request; we do not store them in our database and do not use them to build a profile that identifies you. Location access is based on your permission. If you do not grant permission, the Service still works — it simply shows restaurants based on the map area you choose or a location you search for, rather than your current position.

If location permission has already been granted, a restaurant detail page may also use your location in the browser to display the distance to that restaurant. For this distance display, the coordinates are not sent to our server.

Cookies and Browser Storage

To remember the map state so it can be restored when you return from a restaurant page, we store the map's center coordinates and zoom level (saved as "meshimap_map_state") and your search keywords (saved as "meshimap_search_query") in your browser's session storage (sessionStorage). If you have centered the map on your current location, those center coordinates may be close to your current position. This data stays in your browser, is cleared when the browsing session ends, and is not saved to our server database.

If you use the Favorite button, we store favorite restaurant IDs in your browser's local storage (localStorage, saved as "meshimap:favorites") so the favorite state can be kept on that browser. This data remains in your browser until you delete it or clear browser data, and is not saved to our server database.

To remember your language choice, we store a cookie named "NEXT_LOCALE" in your browser for up to one year when you switch or visit a language version. It contains only the selected language code (e.g. "en"), is used solely to show the site in your preferred language on your next visit, and is not used for tracking or stored in our server database.

In addition, we and third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to deliver and measure advertising, as described in Section 3.

Usage Data

We may collect anonymized usage data — such as pages viewed, search queries, the approximate area searched, device and browser type, and referring pages — to understand usage and improve the Service. We do not intentionally collect information that directly identifies you.

2. How We Use Information

  • To display restaurants near your location and sort them by distance
  • To restore the map view and your last search when you return to the map
  • To keep favorite restaurant selections on your browser
  • To deliver and measure advertising
  • To analyze aggregate usage patterns and improve the Service

3. Cookies and Advertising

The Service displays advertising through Google AdSense. Google and other third-party vendors use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

  • You can opt out of personalized advertising by Google at Google Ads Settings.
  • You can opt out of personalized advertising by other third-party vendors at aboutads.info/choices (or youronlinechoices.eu in Europe).
  • You can also disable or delete cookies in your browser settings, which will limit ad personalization.

For more information, see how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

4. Third-Party Services

The Service uses OpenStreetMap for map display and Nominatim for address search. We use Google AdSense for advertising, and we may use analytics tools to understand aggregate usage. Each of these services has its own privacy policy that governs the data it processes.

5. Data Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.

6. Disclosure, Correction, and Deletion of Personal Information

You may request disclosure, correction, addition, suspension of use, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you. Please contact us at the email address in Section 9. After confirming that the request is made by you, we will respond within a reasonable period.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
